The arrival of spring creates the environment necessary for algae growth: sunlight, warm water, and nutrients. The early spring conditions this year means earlier treatment to inhibit this algae growth.
Concerns about excess algae and ways to control the problem are regularly raised by our customers. Click on this link to read a quick overview about the conditions that contribute to this problem and ways to reduce it. As the poster below indicates, Fish Haven Farm has many options to reduce those favorable conditions which are conducive for algae growth. Our products are non-toxic and will not harm pets or wildlife. Keep in mind that in NY and PA, the application of aquatic pesticides is regulated by the DEC and requires a permit. While providing short-term relief, algicides do not address the underlying conditions and are not a long-range solution.
